Terry Schiavo Passes Away at 41
Posted: Thursday, March 31, 2005 9 Hours 52 Minutes 57 Seconds Ante Meridian

It looks like Terry Schiavo is dead. May she rest in peace.

I am not exactly sure what the issues are in all this. To me it seems so clear cut.

The laws were upheld as Michael Schiavo won court decisions with a surprising consistency as several attempts were made to remove Michael Schiavo from custody of Terry Schiavo.Well, the courts (chock full of activists) didn't work. Bob Schindler and Mary Schindler, Terry Schiavo's parents with the complicity of others then blackmailed our political leaders to act.

Act they did. Congress sided with the Schindler's and President Bush reacted exactly the way he was expected to. He sided with life, lacking the balls necessary to tell it how it is. Ditto with Jeb Bush. He tried to get custody of her too.

Sarcastically I am surprised the Democrats voted in favor of the Schindler's usually they try to abort anything hooked up to life support regardless of age, especially the unborn.

The real point here though, is the real decision, lies with Michael Schiavo period. For a change the rights of a male were upheld. The bottom line is, Michael, like him or not is Terry Schiavo's spouse. Along with that status comes responsibility, liability and choice. You cant apply the law when it is convenient, like if there was something he has to do for her and look the other way and say he has no right to make decisions when things don't go the way you want them. Instead of fighting Michael all these years, everyone should have been trying to change the laws.

Hats off to Florida Judge George Greer who had the balls to do his job and interpret the law.

The laws are easier to change than Michael Schiavo. Like him or not, it was his call.

On a side note, while everyone is making Michael out to be some kind of villian, lest we be reminded that Terry Schiavo got into this mess because of her bullemia, a choice to throw up and or take laxitives that she made.

Frank Im confused you actually want to compare abortion to Terrys situation. Head out the sand dude!!...This husband of hers was NO HUSBAND. Its says in sickness &; health til death do us part. The death do us part seems to be the only thing Micheal remembered. He morally had no right to let her starve to death while he has had children with someother woman!!...Just like a man....As long as he gets sex and does what he wants he is the boss...Please....get back on the boat to cavemanville. The sucker is a piece of crap. he wouldnt even let her parents and family in during her last minutes....A CONTROL FREAK and probably an abusive husband.

One could argue that Michael breached marital contract by having an affair and children outside of marriage. I'm not really sure where the law stands on this.

But this case brings out the point that I disagree strongly with Republicans and the Right. That is that they don't seem to see the difference between life and living. Sure an unborn child is alive technically but the child has not experienced living so I would not put abortion on the same level as murder**. Now in Terry Schiavo's case, the same thing applies except it's worse in my opinion.

This is a woman that was alive. Here is someone who I presume played as a child, listened to rock music as a teen, fell in and out of love, tasted different foods, enjoyed movies and television shows, had sex, and all of the other things most of us enjoy. Now her life has been reduced to staring in one direction, blinking and being fed by a tube. This may be life but she certainly is not LIVING. She was never going to do ANY of those things she enjoyed before her heart attack. There is no way you can convince me that given that painful reality, she would have wanted to live that way. 15 years was long enough for her to endure this torture that was prolong by people who in my opinion were being selfish in avoiding the inevitable pain of a loved one's death.

I'm also not going to sugarcoat the situation and say that she didn't feel pain when she was starving to death... she probably did. But in my opinion it is irrelevant and probably insignificant compared to the pain of not being able to respond to a simple hello when someone enters the room. Or not being able to get up and hug and kiss that person. Or not being able to make love again. Or not being able to go to my favorite restaurant. FOR 15 YEARS!!! 15 days vs 15 years probably passed by like a minute. Personally, I'm glad she finally has gotten her peace.

**Side Note: While I do support abortion (I call it what it is as opposed to "pro-choice"), I am personally "pro-life". I would be less supportive of abortion if the so-called "pro-life" activists put their money where their mouths are by actually personally sponsoring the kids they "save". But that's a different debate.

I believe that her husband has the right to make the decision but only if he is the husband by paper AND by commitment. You do not wait until 7 yrs later after he has a new woman and kids to say "Oh by the way, she didnt want to live like this. I also beleive that if you are not going to maintain someones life then you should make it as easy as possible and not let them starve to death for 2 weeks. That is just plain wrong. Thats cruel. PETA would have charges brought up on someone if they did that to there sick dog. Its a shame that animals have better rights and protection than humans. and mr. schiavo is to love honor and cherish to death. Not well if you are incapacitated I will find another woman have a family and a life and then decide that she wanted to not live like this. It seems to me that he lost the right to make those decisions after making a home with someone else. Even though they were married, imagine being her parents, would you want someone making a decision of killing your child. I think not. The way they did her was very very cruel. You should give them something to make it quick and not starve them of food and water.
