It looks like its as close to a done deal as you can get, the Wilmer Hutchins Independent School District is being for all practical purposes, shut down.

With its legacy of failure, bankruptcy, doctored test scores and more recently corruption which includes but is not limited to, the indictment of its superintendent, the school district, dying a slow death is now about to expire.

Thank God.

The parents of Wilmer and Hutchins schoolchildren however, want their kids to go to school in their neighborhood. Well, they have the right of free speech anyway. But I doubt that is going to happen. DISD sent their people down there to look at the existing buildings and infrastructure and found them to be substandard.

The problem here though is that DISD has its own record of non-performing schools, bad test scores and had a few of its own executives indicted. One their former superintendents went to jail for buying furniture on the districts dime.

I think this is the best case I can think of so far for school vouchers.

For now anyway, for the students of Wilmer and Hutchins TX, its out of the frying pan and into the fire.
