Recently Don Imus of the now infamous “Imus In The Morning Show” on WFAN made some comments about the players on Rutgers University women’s basketball team aka The Scarlet Knights.

Here are some highlights:

Don Imus: "That's some rough girls from Rutgers,"
Don Imus: “"Man, they got tattoos ... ."
Benard McGuirk: "Some hardcore hos”
Don Imus: “That's some nappy-headed hos there, I'm going to tell you that,"
Bernard McGuirk: “Jigaboos vs. the Wannabees,

Wait a second. Have you seen some of those players? They’re right. They are rough looking women and frankly some of them don’t carry themselves like ladies at all. They are no-doubt proud of the fact that they are “hard core” using the excuse that acting or looking civilized is “acting white” or “selling out”.

Now while their comments might be a little over the top Imus and Bernard have done nothing more than expose the facts. Why is it when black people present themselves as being uncouth nobody can comment on it?

If these players presented themselves like lady athletes, and when they spoke, sounded like college students with a lexicon to match perhaps none of these comments would be said in the first place.

This should be a wakeup call to all lady atheletes and a reminder that just because you came from the hood doesnt mean you have to bring it with you. Just because you are a lady athelete does not mean you have to stop being a lady.

To paraphrase Ice Cube: “I tried to tell you a year ago, but Imus told me let a hoe be a hoe so…”
